WMATA Releases Safe Rail Plan

Metro is preparing to implement the SafeTrack plan – a massive effort to address the NTSB and FTA recommendations and bring the system to a state of good repair.

Over the next year, WMATA will implement 15 Safety Surges that require continuous single tracking on segments of the system for several weeks, as well as segments that shut down entirely for up to three weeks.  This will be in addition to intensive weeknight and weekend and track work, which will require the closure of the system at midnight on weekends.
