Councilmember Cheh to host Ward 3 Community Meeting to Discuss the Proposed Family Shelter on Idaho Ave, NW

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, May 26th, Councilmember Mary M. Cheh (D-Ward 3) will host a community meeting to discuss the revised proposed location for the temporary family shelter in Ward 3. In considering the Mayor’s Homeward DC plan to replace DC General with temporary family shelters scattered throughout the city, the Council has decided to site those shelters on public land rather than leased private property. Accordingly, the Ward 3 shelter, originally proposed to be built at 2619-2623 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, would instead be located at 3320 Idaho Avenue, NW. Chairman Mendelson and Department of Human Services Director Zeilinger will join Councilmember Cheh to discuss the revised proposal.
